Your Perception of My Comic

A disadvantage to running a single comic strip for many years, I've concluded, is that the author's comic-making skill changes over time. I'll admit that Mobian Chaos isn't quite the same comic it used to be several years ago, and I can see that reflected in the number and type of people who leave comments regularly.

What I'd like to hear from you, my readers, is the following: How long have you been actively following new comics in this series? Would you agree that things have changed? And would you keep reading my series no matter how it may have changed?

I stopped reading it simply because you've developed the characters too much. You're repeating yourself now

To be honest, I still read the comic (and don't comment, my bad) but I agree with Clare; because you've developed them so much, it feels rather slow. It takes weeks and weeks just to get through a single level because they're talking so much throughout each page. It's perfectly understandable that they're talking and I know why they are but it's just kind of getting repetitive. It'd be nice if there were:

A. More action, where they actually get somewhere.
B. More characters, even if it's just a baddie or two.
C. More...surprises. Like Clare said, it's kind of repetitive, we need something to break up the monotony.

@Afrohawkman: Thanks for the input. Something like that is exactly the specific feedback I was looking for.

I have a feeling that this is a problem that most sprite comic authors don't run into, because most lose interest after a few dozen comics. But it's a valid point nevertheless. It seems that ever since starting Mushroom Hill (and maybe even extending into Launch Base), my scripts have been largely situation-based, because there isn't any more room for character development as you said. (I have attempted a few things to break up the monotony, like Amy getting amnesia.) It also probably doesn't help that with every passing year, I have less and less free time for making this comic as life's demands grow.

I'll make a point to speed up the comic's pace so I don't end up in Mushroom Hill for the next 100 comics. Yes, the characters will still talk, but even I agree that having them stop and discuss every little feature they come across is a little unrealistic.

I've been reading this for a while, and it's one of the better Sonic comics. I might read this until the bitter end, character development and all. Just remember to take it easy once in a while. Also, don't go too overboard with pacing. Bad pacing makes bad comics, and bad comics don't get fans.

@HollowLovePainter2: Thanks for your words. I'm glad you think my comic is one of the better Sonic comics out there (I actually don't read many others). Though could you be more specific about what you mean by "bad pacing"? Would you say my comic is going too slow right now?

@stpcomics: Going too fast ruins any fun, and as Afro and Claire said, too slow makes it boring.

Admittedly I have been following this since the beginning, and I love the series, it makes me laugh. But yeah I have to agree with Afro and Clare. It's going way too slow. With the once a week update, it takes weeks just to get past 1 obstacle, and months to get through a single level. Why? Because they have to talk and analyze the entire situation, make crude remarks about the obstacle AND each other, which never gets us anywhere.

Hell, that pulley took 3 issues to get past, and it's one of the simplest things to do in Mushroom Hill Zone.

Basically, have less talking about every minor detail, and more action.

@Majin Tobias: Yeah, maybe discussing every little thing is a bit overkill. Multiple people have told me to speed things up a bit, and I made an effort to do that in this week's upcoming comic. In the future, I'll try to avoid comics where a single scene/background is the focus of the entire comic. That way I don't end up staying in Mushroom Hill for 100 comics like I did in Launch Base (people complained about that too).

TBH, I thought your striping skills were so good, I didn't really see a change. In fact, I paid more attention to the story rather than illustration, that's how good I think it is.

I've followed this comic for about.... oh IDK, 9 months? took me a week or so to catch up with the story, and was totally worth it.

I would actually like to see more older game references like commander keen and such. Knuckles needs a moment in the spotlight IMO.

EDIT: Okay, who changed spriting to striping? xD

I've been following for about 100 comics now. I think that it has changed, but I don't mind. Of course, I'm more lenient to change.

One thing I do notice a shortage of are jokes. You focus on the plot more than the jokes.

@greenpowerstar: Yeah, I've noticed that too. I mean, I try to include some whenever I can, but at the same time, I want to avoid repeating the same jokes I did dozens or hundreds of comics ago. In upcoming comics, I'll try inserting more jokes.
